Secured, scalable, and locally hosted cloud infrastructure for a leading Mobile Network Operator.

Industry – Telecommunications

Challenge – Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services (EMTS), trading as 9mobile, is a Nigerian private limited liability company. EMTS acquired a Unified Access Service License from the Nigerian Communications Commission in 2007.

9Mobile had been issued a Payment Service Provider (PSP) licence by the Central Bank of Nigeria and needed to host their applications in Nigeria. The initial plan was to have their own infrastructure and physical servers. However, due to the cost of shipping and the wait time, they decided to shop for a credible local Cloud Service Provider (CSP).

Selection Criteria – Owing to time constraints experienced, the initial plan to acquire actual physical servers was set aside when presented with a better opportunity to work with Layer3Cloud to get their services running in record time. 9Mobile was in search of a CSP in Nigeria following the local data residency policy of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). The hosting selection criteria were a secure, scalable, and locally hosted infrastructure.

9Mobile also wanted an assurance of competitive pricing and onward expression of technical compatibility. 9Mobile prioritized working with a CSP that could assure ease of access to technical support and trusted security in its operations.

Affordability – As a start-up service they needed something affordable and effective.

Easy access to support – There was need for a local 24/7 support team they could easily be contacted if there were issues with the service.

Local Availability – It was important that the provider be based in Nigeria.

Security – Layer3Cloud was able to provide a safe and secure platform owing to various cybersecurity solutions and measures already factored into our operations.

The Result –

Layer3Cloud provided 9Mobile with a Software Defined Data Centre consisting of over 15 Virtual Machines, Managed Firewalls and VPN connections.

Layer3Cloud engineers worked with 9Mobile to help migrate some of their existing Virtual Machines from Vodacom Cloud while setting up its current environment.
